Claudia Udy was born as Claudia Udy on March 18, 1960, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. While born in the United States, she was primarily raised in Montreal, Canada, where she grew up as the daughter of urban planner John Udy. She is the older sister of fellow actress Helene Udy.
Udy began her acting career in the early 1980s, gaining significant international attention for her title role in the erotic drama Joy (1983). During this same period, she appeared in the Canadian cult slasher American Nightmare (1983). Throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, she became a frequent face in genre cinema, with credits including the action film Savage Dawn (1985), the sci-fi comedy The Pink Chiquitas (1987), and the thriller Edge of Sanity (1989). She is also credited in some listings under the name Claudia Udy-Harris.
