Born as Joyce Anne DeWitt on April 23, 1949, in Wheeling, West Virginia, the American actress is internationally recognized for her iconic role as the sensible and witty Janet Wood in the hit ABC sitcom Three's Company (1977–1984). Growing up in Speedway, Indiana, DeWitt developed a passion for performing at a young age, making her stage debut at just 13. She pursued a formal education in the arts, earning a bachelor’s degree in theater from Ball State University and later a Master of Fine Arts from UCLA.
While she famously balanced the slapstick antics of co-stars John Ritter and Suzanne Somers, her career began with a television debut on the series Baretta.
